1) Where can I get stories from?

I have a reference of story books on my website, in the Workshops, Events and stories page. There is also a good website to search for stories http://www.story-lovers.com

2) Where do you get your silk cloths, wool and dry felting needles, musical instruments etc?

There are a number of places to get natural cloths; cotton and silk but one website that I use regularly is www.myriadonline.co.uk. They also supply lovely sounding instruments. For dry felting needles and a variety of carded wools for dry and wet felting I go to www.winghamwoolworks.co.uk or local craft fairs. I stuff my puppets with hand carded wool which I do myself. If you live near a farmer you could ask for the small remnents of the fleece and these bundles are really useful once washed and carded. Keep you eyes out at craft fairs and markets for raw materials and for naturally made animals etc for puppets. Charity shops also have a good supply of flannel sheets for making storytelling aprons and puppets too. .

3) Where can I get hold of the ring-time songs and verses that you use.

There are lots of lovely books with songs and rhymes including 4 books which I would highly recommend; Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. They have poems, songs and stories for young children. These are a great resource and are available via Wynstones Press, or A journey through Time in Verse and Rhyme, poems collected by Heather Thomas (Floris Books). Another invaluable book is "This Little Puffin" compiled by Elizabeth Matterson, full of wonderful poems and songs old and new.

5) Do you go into the same setting and tell stories to the same children on a regular basis?

Yes, I am very keen to work with the same group of children and adults on an on-going basis. I have seen what a positive effect this has in terms of language development, social interaction and confidence amongst other things.

6) How much do you charge for storytelling?

The prices vary enormously from £3.00 per session to join the adult storytelling circle to £90+ for a small private party. Storyteling in a school is likely to be between £150.00 and £350.00 whilst Storytelling Training Sessions are between £200 and £800 depending on the size and nature of the training. Each storytelling session is designed to fit the needs of the setting, so please do contact me for an individual quote. If you are working to a budget do speak to me about this, we can work something out!
